The Grace Estate & Grassy Hollow, East Hampton

Beautiful springtime hike in East Hampton’s Northwest Woods, leading from the interior of Northwest with its many white pines into the Grace Estate Preserve and to the shore of Northwest Harbor. The oak trees will be budding out. Meet at the intersection of Old Northwest Road and Northwest Road in East Hampton. Bring snacks, liquids, & tick protection. Duration app. 2.5 hours.

Block Island Sound Beach Walk, Montauk
Distance: 4 miles
Level: Moderate pace
Join us for a relaxed-pace, tick-free bay beach walk along Block Island Sound. It is a lovely but challenging beach with gravel rocks, soft sand, and typically an uneven surface. On a clear day you can see Fisher's Island, the Rhode Island mainland and Block Island.
Meet at Gin Beach, at the end of East Lake Drive off of Rt. 27, several miles east of Montauk Village. (It's the next left turn east of South Lake Drive.) Note: you must have a valid Town of East Hampton beach parking permit. Duration: app. 2 hours.

Florida in the Hamptons, aka Sammy's Beach, East Hampton
Distance: 2.5 miles
Level: Moderate pace
Our second annual Florida in the Hamptons hike, taking advantage of the fact that from the air, Sammy's Beach looks like a map of Florida. We will start at the western end of Sammy's Beach (Pensacola), walk east on the beach to the jetty (Jacksonville), walk south along the inlet to Three Mile Harbor (Miami), then follow the harbor shoreline (past Sarasota and St. Petersburg) before following Sammy's Beach Road back to the parking area. Spray yourself against ticks. Bring water. And come wearing something Floridian!

Gerard Drive, Springs

Enjoy the beauty and learn some history of Accabonac Harbor and Gardiner’s Bay as we walk along Gerard Drive. This hike will include a look at properties recently acquired through the Town’s Community Preservation Fund as well as a look at some of the original homes along the way.
Meet at the first causeway parking area on the left on Gerard Drive off Springs-Fireplace Road in Springs. Duration: app. 2 hours.

Camp Hero Memorial Day Hike, Montauk
Distance: 4.5 miles
Level: Moderate pace
On Memorial Day 2026 join us for a hike and stroll through the former Camp Hero, which was from 1942 to 1981 the largest military base ever operational in East Hampton Town, and the beautiful Point Woods. This isn’t only military history. The State Parks trails in Camp Hero feature more than a half dozen bridges over the area’s numerous running brooks.

Amagansett Highlands and Devon
Distance: 3 miles

An EHTPS Members Only Experience.
The Devon Colony is a historic enclave founded in 1908 by Cincinnati’s William Cooper Procter (Procter & Gamble), Richmond Levering (Lever Brothers), Joseph Rawson Jr., and William Stanhope Rowe after they discovered the area on a hunting trip. The men purchased 1,000 acres of land, 90 feet above sea level, with Gardiners Bay to the north and the ocean to the south and built grand stucco houses and smaller residences as their summer homes. The colony also includes what is now the Devon Yacht Club, which was originally established as the Gardiners Bay Boat Club in 1908. We’ll tour this area and get a private tour of the Devon Yacht Club with Lucy Sachs, a descendant and former resident of the Highlands.

Amagansett Summer Colony Walk

Jamie Sykes has done some research concerning the Amagansett Summer Colony and will share his findings during a walk along Main Street, Bluff Road, and several Amagansett Lanes. Meet at 10 AM in the parking lot behind the Amagansett Library. Duration: app 2 hours.

Blue Moon Nocturne, Montauk
Distance: 2.5 miles
Level: Moderate pace
Beginning as twilight wanes, we will follow the magnificent bluff overlooking the ocean to take in the nocturnal sights and sounds of this special stretch of Atlantic coastline. The rare "blue" moon will be the second full moon of May, betwixt Flower Moon (May 1) and Strawberry Moon (June 29). Our hike will culminate at a 360-degree viewpoint showcasing the sparkling sea and historic lighthouse and then return to the starting point. All are welcome to relish the riches of nature at night. Bring a flashlight or lamp if you like. Subject to cancellation if weather is inclement. Duration: App 1.5 hours, muddy patches possible.

Central Park, New York City
Distance: 3 miles
Level: Moderate pace
We will explore the highlights and hidden gems of the northern end of Central Park. Starting from Central Park West at 103rd Street, we will visit The Pool, follow the Loch through the Glen Span Arch, visit the marvelous Huddlestone Arch, and then walk north through the thickly forested Ravine, stopping by the Blockhouse, the oldest structure in the park. From there we will walk around the recently restored Harlem Meer, then south to the Conservatory Garden on Fifth Avenue, before returning to our starting point. Magnolias, tulips, daffodils and azaleas should be in bloom.
Meet at 10 AM at the corner of Central Park West and 103rd Street, park side. Duration: App. 2.5 hours, moderate pace. Bring snacks & liquids.

Rod’s Valley, Montauk

Level: Relaxed pace
Join us for a relaxed-pace hilly hike that is mostly on the Paumanok Path and takes us to places typically only seen on much longer hikes. You will see Fort Pond Bay, and hike Riah's Ridge and the Lost Boulder Trail. You'll be asked whether you can locate the boulder! Meet at 10 AM at the Rod's Valley Park parking area at the west end of Navy Road in Montauk. Time: Duration: App. 2 hours.

North Neck Trail, Montauk

Join us for an out & back hike on the North Neck Trail, one of Montauk’s newest trails. We’ll go past Tupelo Stone and the enormous North Neck Oak on this lovely route. Meet at the Culloden Point historic marker, west side of Flamingo Avenue, Montauk, about 400 feet north of Wills Point Road. (Look for a red fire hydrant.) For those who are up for it, at the end of the main hike we may continue into the Culloden Point Preserve on the west side of Flamingo Avenue for an additional (and optional) 2-1/2 miles or so leading to the bay. Bring snacks, liquids, & tick protection. Duration: App. 90 minutes.

Town and Country, Amagansett
Distance: 5.5 miles
Level: Moderate pace
Starting on Amagansett's historic Main Street, our hike will leave charming Amagansett village and traverse upcountry woodlands and farm fields in the early springtime. This route follows local roads to the access point for Stony Hill’s Forest, then tracks parts of the Paumanok Path, Archery Trail and Springs to Amagansett Trail. Skirting the impressive Baker Kettlehole, we will pass through Amagansett's farmlands before returning to the starting point. All are welcome to relish Amagansett's beautiful beechwood forest and broad fields and appreciate a variety of avian and terrestrial fauna. Duration: App. 2.5 hours. Montauk Mountain Preserve Hike with the Montauk Library
Distance: 1 mile
Level: slow pace
Join us for a short hike through Montauk Mountain Preserve, one of the few remaining maritime grasslands in New York and a site of significance for the East End during the American Revolutionary War. During the American Revolutionary War, British ships moored off Fort Pond Bay threatened raids on colonists’ cattle grazing Montauk’s grasslands. Hear the story of how Captain John Dayton prevented the raid, take in the first signs of spring, listen to bird song, and learn about the rare plants in this unique maritime grassland.
This will be a slow-paced .5-mile loop hike with the option to turn coats inside out and hike a second time in the style of Dayton’s Ruse for a total of 1 mile, duration of one hour.

East Hampton’s iconic Maidstone Club is one of the most beautiful golf courses in the world. Timeless vistas along the Gardiner’s Peninsula over Hook Pond, the Atlantic Ocean and beyond. Maidstone Club GM Ken Koch leads the hike, including seeing the gardens, apiary and chickens. Maidstone Club members will join us and share stories and provide historical content. Duration 2.5 hours. Barcelona Neck Preserve

Join us for our scenic hike along the Blue Trail next to Northwest Creek, past the Connor home site and out on a spur to Cuffee Landing. We will hike along the Trustee Road out to Channel Landing and view the entrance to Northwest Harbor. Then it’s off to stunning views of Cedar Point Lighthouse, Shelter Island and Northwest Woods from the Barcelona Bluffs. We will return via a trail past a salt pond and the golf course.

Montauk Loop
Distance: 5 miles
Level: Moderate pace
We will make a counterclockwise loop around the eastern tip of the South Fork. Starting from the parking lot of the Montauk Point Lighthouse, we will walk west along the Oyster Pond Trail, taking a side trip on the Seal Haulout Trail to look for harbor seals below. (Early March is a good time to spot them.) After skirting the brackish Oyster Pond we will head south, cross Route 27, enter Camp Hero, and walk east back to the lighthouse along the spectacular bluffs. If the weather is OK, we'll finish by walking on the bed of giant rocks below the lighthouse.

Elizabeth Morton Wildlife Refuge, Sag Harbor

We will explore the entire Jessup’s Neck peninsula of the Elizabeth A. Morton National Wildlife Refuge with its exceptionally diverse habitats (including bay beaches, brackish and freshwater ponds, kettle holes, salt marshes and maritime oak/ red cedar forests). Bring water and a snack, and wear warm, wind-proof clothing.

A Hero’s Welcome, Montauk
Distance: 4 miles
Level: Moderate pace
This is among the most beautiful oceanside hikes in all East Hampton. We will follow the Point Woods Trail to gain a spectacular cliffside view, then track the coastline to enjoy additional viewpoints at varying elevations. After culminating at a near-360-degree panorama, we will follow the Battery 113 trail through more forest and return to our starting point. All are welcome to relish Camp Hero's beautiful woodlands, crumbling cliffs, shining sea, and mysterious military artifacts. Bring binoculars if you are interested in birds and sea life.

Amsterdam State Park, Montauk
Distance: 2.6 miles
Level: Moderate rugged pace
Join us on Valentine’s Day for a lovely, diverse, short but rugged hike at Amsterdam State Park in Montauk. This popular hike is a scenic loop that takes us through a blend of coastal woodlands and bluffs, leading to a picturesque beach on the Atlantic Ocean. The trail itself meanders through American holly, oak trees, scrub oak and shad, among others. It also features vistas of “the moorlands.” Directions: Take Montauk Point State Boulevard (Route 27) and turn right (south) at the Amsterdam sign, across the road from the Deep Hollow Ranch sign. East Hampton Town benefits from two active affordable housing providers. Join us for a walk to the grounds of two of their communities in Amagansett. We hope to be joined by the leader of each organization for a brief overview of their respective mission, activities and communities. Meet at 10 AM at Atlantic Avenue beach parking lot, Amagansett, for the one-mile walk; an EH Town Parking Permit is required.

Join us for an unusual Monday hike. It's a counterclockwise circuit of Cedar Point County Park. We will head north on the Northwest Path (yellow triangle blazes), walk west along the tall bluffs overlooking Gardiner's Bay, and then return south on the park road to our cars. The view from the bluffs is amazing.
Meet 10 AM at the parking lot just inside the entrance to Cedar Point County Park. Bring water and dress for the weather.
