If it's been a while since you hiked to the Cedar Point Lighthouse (built 1868), you haven't seen the impressive reconstruction project going on there. The stone block walls are being dismantled and reassembled. We'll also check in with the fishermen and try to identify birds. Look for piping plovers, ospreys, terns and cormorants. The plan is to hike out on the windy Gardiner's Bay side of the spit and return on the sheltered Northwest Harbor side. We won't be in the woods or grass, but guard against ticks anyway. Spray for mosquitoes. Wear a good hat and sunscreen. Carry water.
Meet at the camp store, which is on the left at the very end of the camp road. Duration: App. 2 hours. A parking day pass is $15. (Worth it.) Address: 5 Cedar Point Road, East Hampton, N.Y.
