We will watch the sun set on the longest day of the year. Sunset will be at 8:24 PM. Just over two hours later, at 10:41 PM, will be the summer solstice -the moment at which the sun reaches its highest point in the sky in the northern hemisphere and summer begins. (The solstice always falls on June 20, 21 or 22.) 

Meet at 8 PM by the Atlantic Avenue Beach concession stand. We'll try to identify shore birds and keep an eye out for dolphins and whales. We will stroll east along the beach, then return west as the sunset gets brilliant, if all goes well. Depending on the weather, people's moods and the mosquitoes, we may stay long enough to watch the stars come out. Wear long pants and long sleeves to keep away the bugs and to stay warm when the temperature drops. Bring snacks, liquids, bug spray and beach chairs.
